The Great Glen Hostel - backpackers accommodation in the heart of the Highlands

The Great Glen Hostel is situated in South Laggan at the heart of Scotland's Great Glen, 20 miles north of Fort William between Loch Lochy and Loch Oich. Formerly operating as Loch Lochy SYHA, it is now owned and managed independently and has recently undergone extensive renovations.

We provide comfortable dormitory-style accommodation, twin and family rooms, fully equipped self-catering facilities, hot showers, internet access, drying room, secure bike/canoe storage and a grocery store.

The Great Glen Way - a long-distance route between Fort William and Inverness for walkers and cyclists - passes just behind the hostel. Hillwalkers are spoilt for choice with an abundance of 'Munros' closeby in Glen Garry, Glen Dessary, Glen Spean and the Great Glen. For paddlers the Garry, Spean, Roy and Moriston rivers are within easy reach.

We can organise tailor-made outdoor activity and team-building packages for groups with a local activities provider, and the whole hostel can be rented for exclusive use throughout the year. School and Youth groups, University clubs, hillwalking groups and families looking for a venue to get together will all enjoy the hostel's picturesque location.

If you're touring the Highlands, the hostel is a great base for your holiday; you can take day trips by car from here to the Isle of Skye, Loch Ness and Inverness, the castles of Eilean Donan and Urquhart, the sands of Morar on the west coast, Fort William, and more.

The hostel is open all day and there's no curfew, so you are free to do as much or as little as you like.
