Glengarry Forest Walks

Mossy pines in Glen GarryFly Agaric

There are a number of lovely short walks to do in and around the Glengarry forest, 5 miles from the Hostel.

Follow the A87 out of Invergarry and after about a mile and a half, turn left across the River Garry at Whitebridge. There is a parking area just after the bridge and another half a mile further on.

From here, waymarked trails lead into the forest, and boards give information on the history of the area and suggest things to keep an eye out for - you might spot a red squirrel, dippers or a buzzard!

Forest Enterprise are working to preserve areas of Caledonian Forest in Glengarry, and some of the trails lead through the Scots pines and heather. In particular, the yellow and blue waymarked trails wind alongside a stream (the Allt na Cailliche) to a waterfall through these beautiful trees.

Sketch map of InvergarryAlternatively, you can walk to the woods from Invergarry along a path on the north bank of the River Garry, starting from the Post Office.  Or, crossing the river at the bridge behind the Post Office, you can stroll down the peaceful Mandally road: the rhododendrons are lovely along here in spring. The road ends near the second car park in the forest.
